emptyinbtwn asked: Hey. I am looking for some advice as to what to wear to a summer, specifically august wedding. Normally I would wear skinny dress pants, a dress shirt and a tie, but I feel like this would be too hot in the summer. Any suggestions?

I would keep the dress shirt and tie but roll up the sleeves and then get some nice dress shorts. Topman has some fancy ones, and their clothes tend to fit me really well:

Dark Blue Oxford Cinch Tailored Shorts, available at Topman for $70

Anonymous asked: I'm going to a party to celebrate my grandmothers 100'th birthday and I was wondering what to wear. The rest of my family/my relatives are going to wear suits and dresses. I dont wanna wear a dress and I dont look good in a suit. Thinking about a shirt and a vest with a bowtie or something like that. Kinda have a low budget 2. Any suggestions? Thanks 4 an awesome blog.

Assuming she is your biological grandmother, congrats. You have some GOOD GENES. I don’t believe you that you don’t look good in suits, because everyone does as long as it’s the right fit. Shirt + Vest + Bow tie is an excellent choice though. Since you have a low budget I’d first check out thrift stores in your area because you never know what might pop up. If you have more time, go back a few days later. The shelves rotate and new things will pop up. If you don’t have any luck there, Topman and American Apparel carry well-priced bow ties. I’m imagining you’d want a tux style vest; both the women’s and the men’s sections at Banana RepublicH&MTopshop/Topman, and J. Crew have them. For women’s button-ups, try the Gap, Banana Republic, and H&M. For men’s try Topman or Boy’s departments.

Black Brogues Done Casual

Anonymous asked: Ok so i took your advice, and decided to try on some black brogues from the boys section. I brought them to wear them for my graduation having never ever owned a pair of smart black shoes. After falling head of heels for them (excuse the pun) i’ve rather fell in love with them and would love to wear them with something more casual but i’m at a bit of a loss what to put with them. Any suggestions?

This is exciting! They would go with pretty much anything; denim, chinos, you name it. They would be especially cool with brightly colored socks. You could pick some up at Topman or American Apparel

Anonymous asked: My closet basically consists of t-shirts, jeans, and sneakers (converse and vans). I'm going on a date with someone I really really like and we're going out to eat then maybe a stroll near the beach for some ice cream. What should I wear if I want to impress?

You’ve inspired me to do a beach date post, so keep an eye out. I would just pick up a button-up, maybe add a watch or a rope belt and then pair that with the jeans and sneakers. If you are on the andro side check out the button-ups at Topman (they fit us queerfolks super well). If on the femmesicle, try the Gap’s The Perfect Shirt. You could also do a polo if you’re feeling a little preppier. But basically you should wear whatever you feel comfortable in and be yourself, because queers love that shit.

  • Paige: Listen. Your coming out was about being totally honest with yourself right? Right?
  • Ellen: Right…
  • Paige: THIS is about being dishonest. It’s about pretending to be something that you’re not so that you an impress someone else.
  • Ellen: And you think it’s beneath me.
  • Paige: No I just don’t think you have the experience to pull it off.

Picnic Outfit

Jennelle in Portland took this picture on the way to a picnic with her lovely redheaded girlfriend. She says, “This outfit was inspired by looking through A Bicycle Built for Two, a lesbian wedding blog. I saw so many adorable couples on there!!  All the cute dykes had blazers and I immediately went out and bought one!!”

Brown blazer and shoes? Totes dapper. But my favorite part is the red socks.

I might need to pick up a packet of these babies. That pop of color goes a long way:

Branded 5 Pack Socks, available at Topman for $24

And by the way, don’t try googling “Red Socks.” Apparently there’s a popular baseball team in Boston that’s spelled similarly.

Working the Heat

Anonymous asked: I’m brazilian and it is very hot where I live, about 27°C to 30°C all year long. There is no such thing as winter, which means I can’t really work with layers. I like short sleeves buttom-ups or polos and jeans (as long as they do not accentuate my hips) and I wear them for work with converse shoes. I wonder if there are other clothes I could try. I am a psychologist and work with young people in a university, which does not require a dress code.

Wow, jeans, converse, and polos to work? Sounds great! So it’s in the 80’s (F) all year round. Let’s get some dress shorts. My beloved Old Navy Bermudas only come in 3 colors this year (view this post)… but I have some from Banana Republic that I got last year on sale and they fit in a straight up-and-down way and have really nice fabric. I also can’t help but recommend the shorts from the store with whom I have been having an intimate love affair for the past 6 months:

Topman, dark pink chino shorts

I don’t think I mentioned how tucking in your shirt and wearing a belt can seriously rack up the fancy points:

ASOS black leather belt (only $21.81!)

Add some loafers (and don’t forget the invisible socks):

Bass Casell Black Shoe

Have you considered ties? Have I shown you my latest favorite?

General Knot Bedford Plaid & Japanese Indigo Chambray Necktie

Now, I know it’s hot. But you can still add a vest over your short-sleeve button-up once in a while (and tie!!), right?
